The Alliance for African Partnership (AAP), an innovative initiative by Michigan State University (MSU), seeks to foster collaboration and cross-disciplinary partnerships with African institutions to address global challenges. SportDrive played a key role as supervisors and facilitators of AAP’s project in Ghana, which aimed to integrate entrepreneurship and life skills into youth sports programs.
Origins of AAP
AAP was launched at the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from July 18th to 20th, 2017. The event brought together experts such as Dr. Felix Kwame Yeboah, CSUS alumnus; Dr. Daniel McCole and Dr. Robert Richardson from Michigan State University; and Ebenezer Offei Ansah, a CSUS PhD student. The Alliance was established by MSU’s Department of Community Sustainability to create a collaborative platform for tackling emerging global challenges. AAP emphasizes innovative research and partnership models to empower African universities, institutions, and scholars.

The Youth Sports Initiative
As part of its mission to address today’s pressing issues, AAP initiated a project to instill entrepreneurship and life skills in youth through sports. This groundbreaking program was implemented across three prominent African universities:
- University of Botswana
- University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
- University of Ghana, Legon
In Ghana, the Department of Physical Education and Sports Studies at the University of Ghana led the implementation of the project under the leadership of Professor Reginald Ocansey, who served as Camp Director.
